Dr. Harold Schmeiser

Dr. Schmeiser graduated from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1986.  He first worked as an associate in a mixed animal practice in rural Colorado. 

Dr. Schmeiser moved to the Washington, D.C./ Maryland area in 1988 where he continued his work with a mixed animal practice in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. In April 1996 Dr. Schmeiser opened Dunkirk Animal Hospital, an exclusively small animal practice. 

Dr. Schmeiser has invested a majority of his time and energy over the last 17 years working diligently to shape his practice into a dynamic, well-equipped, and respected veterinary hospital.

Dr. Matthew Distler
Dr. Distler received his Bachelor of Science degree from Washington College summa cum laude in 1996, with a major in Biology and a minor in English. He obtained his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia—Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. 

A native of the area, Dr. Distler returned to practice at Dunkirk Animal Hospital shortly after graduation.  Dr. Distler divides his time between medical duties and managing the clinic. He has interests in dentistry and soft tissue surgery.


Dr. Carey Goehle

Dr. Carey Goehle graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in Biotechnology. In 1999, he received his doctorate of veterinary medicine from the University of Auburn. 

Sharing a love for both large and small animals, he elected to pursue a career in small animal veterinary medicine. Dr. Goehle has been a member of the Dunkirk Animal Hospital professional staff since 1999. 
Although he enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, Dr. Goehle takes a special interest in both orthopedic and soft tissue surgery.

Dr. Anna Parvianinen
Anna Parviainen began her college career at the University of Georgia, receiving her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from its College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. She then continued her veterinary education at the University of Georgia, completing an internship in anesthesia and a residency in large animal internal medicine. 

Dr. Parviainen further distinguished herself by becoming a board certified member of the American Veterinary College of Internal Medicine, specifically large animal internal medicine. Moving to Maryland in order to be closer to her family, she began practicing large animal ambulatory medicine.

After 2 years of busy practice, Dr. Parviainen decided to expand her areas of veterinary expertise and transitioned to small animal medicine in 2002. Dr. Parviainen has been a veterinarian at Dunkirk Animal Hospital since then. She has found that she has a keen interest in the internal medicine aspects of small animal veterinary practice as well.
